What are PlaceCodes?
PlaceCodes are the simple, sharable way to create, save and share detailed location information for any place on earth.
With PlaceCodes, you can create a customized code for any place on earth and store each code with a unique, easy-to-remember name that you get to pick. You can access the location data and share it with others-along with instant directions-at any time.
Can I use PlaceCodes for my business?
Absolutely. PlaceCodes provide an easy way to share location information and one-click directions in all online and mobile promotions.
PlaceCodes are short enough to include in messages as simple as a text or a Tweet. You can also create a QR code for your PlaceCode and share it electronically or by including it printed ads or coupons.
Your customized PlaceCode name can include recognizable words to help identify your business. Plus, including additional "Notes" in your PlaceCode description will enhance your Google, Bing and local search results while also offering specific product information for customers who click on your link.
PlaceCodes also help you identify new geographic opportunities-with information on the areas from which you're drawing most traffic, and the ones that represent the best opportunities for growth.
How does PlaceCodes work?
PlaceCodes converts any physical location-with or without a defined street address-into a short, customizable code that can be shared via the web, social networks and mobile devices.
Anyone who has the code is able to simply click on the PlaceCodes link or enter it into a web-enabled device to generate directions to the specific location.
How do I get access to PlaceCodes?
Just visit PlaceCodes.com and follow the simple instructions. You can create, store and share your first PlaceCode in less than a minute!
Who creates the codes?
Anyone can create PlaceCodes. Once a code is created, you can share it with one or many recipients or can use it yourself by entering it into any web-enabled GPS or mobile device or browser.
How do I create my own PlaceCodes?
You can create and customize PlaceCodes any time, anywhere from your web browser or mobile device. Either: type an address or place in the address field or tap "use current location."
What additional information can I add?
Every time you create or edit a PlaceCode, you have the option of adding additional Notes for yourself or your recipients. You can add a personal Note such as: "We'll be in the back room" or "Come around to the back of the house." Or, if you're using PlaceCodes for business, you can add Notes to describe and differentiate your products or services, such as "We serve the following foods and drinks..." or "We carry the following brands...."
Are PlaceCodes (and associated Notes) public or private?
Every time you create a new PlaceCode, you have the option to make your code either public and searchable, viewable by anyone with the code, or viewable only by someone with the code and a password. For businesses, PlaceCodes are a great way to allow new customers to discover you on the web. On a personal level, PlaceCodes are a simple way to send addresses, directions and accompanying notes privately, whether it's to one or two people in your immediate circle or to hundreds on your party guest list.
How do I send a PlaceCode?
Once your code is created, it's easy to share it via email, text, Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media platform. Just tap the sharing button and PlaceCodes will auto-fill your custom code into your post or email.
How do your recipients use the codes?
If you've sent your PlaceCode electronically (through email, Twitter, Facebook, etc.), then your recipient can simply click on it and have it converted into the location, obtain the accompanying map and directions, and see your Notes. Alternatively, your recipient can visit PlaceCodes.com, click "Use a Code" and enter your PlaceCode.
What if I have no address for a "Place" I want to Code?
How, exactly, do you get to "Soccer Field Number 3"? Where exactly in Central Park do you want to meet your friends? Which ski-lift should your group meet at tomorrow? Where on earth did you park that car?
PlaceCodes is the ideal solution any time you want to store or share information about a location that doesn't have a known address. If you're at the spot you want to save, simply click "use current location" and PlaceCodes does the rest. Or find your location on a map, select the exact spot, and select "create code".
